The world around us is simply not perfect, everything is not neatly laid out, clean, and organized wonderfully. If it was, it wouldn’t be any fun! Continually, people try to make maps that are perfect - this just kills the realism and can really hurt a map. With the vast features of CryEngine 2 you can make your creations more real.

Skinning weapons, and other objects has been incredibly popular in other games, and now you can do it in Crysis too!

This map may not look as realistic as Seith’s Little Island, but for a playable map it’s looks amazing, and appears to be designed quite well. Just image what we’ll see over the next few months!

When you first put vegetation on the terrain you’ll most likely notice it doesn’t look right. That’s why you need to change some settings to make it look natural and believable.

Basically, I want to get a feature going on cryengine2.org where map and mod makers can post progress of their maps. This does two things:
1. Advertises your map/mod
2. Shows the community what goes into your mod/map
I’m looking for just a few people to occasionally (there will be no deadlines or anything, as this is completely voluntary) to write articles about the progress of their work, but to also include just a few tips about what they’ve done.
This would be the basic structure of an article:
- what you’re working on at the moment
- some screenshots (possibly a video)
- something you learnt, or were especially proud of when making this
- any other related help/tips
If you’re interested in this then send me an email at email [@] cryengine2.org whenever and I’ll gladly post your article up OR email me a username/password you’d like and you can post directly to the site (all posts will be moderated by me though) - if you do this, please show me some examples of your work so far, just so I can see you have some SB2 knowledge (you don’t have to be the best, just competent).
Remember, you’ll be getting free advertising on cryengine2.org of your work, and this site receives 900+ unique visitors daily.

Gone are the days where all clouds are just flat images in the skybox! Volumetric (3D) clouds really add to the immersion when sky diving, or flying around in helicopters.

Okay, what this guy has done with CryEngine 2 in a matter of days is just amazing, and just makes me wonder what will be created over the next few years.
You can see all the pictures of this map here. He also gives some good tips at making realistic maps.

Solids, whilst they can be used on their own to create decent structures, are also very useful to be used as placeholders, and then exported to 3DS Max. Using this placeholder you can then create an accurately scaled model easier.
