Spawning Enemy AI

Artificial Intelligence has been progressing  quite well over the last couple of years in games, and Crytek have done a great job at creating AI that is realistic, generally challenging, and dynamic. Lets find out how to get some AI into your map!

Added a Poll

To the right, in the sidebar, I’ve added a poll. It’d be greatly appreciated if you could answer this so I know what people actually want in terms of tutorials. I’ll try to accommodate for everyone, but I won’t bother writing in depth tutorials for example if nobody wants them.

GravityVolume

You know those tubes that use vacuums to take messages from one destination to another? Well, that is what I like to think of the GravityVolume tool as. It works similarly to the Road or River tool, but when your player, if you stand at the start point you get sucked towards the end point […]

Useful Hotkeys

Hotkeys are marvelous creations, and Sandbox 2 has it’s own set which should become second nature to you as you continue building maps.

Open and Save Texture Files in Photoshop

If you’re interested in making or editing textures for your mod/map then they’ll need to be in DDS format. You could find a converter or whatever, but if you’re a Photoshop user you can just install this simple plugin.

Configuring your Layout

Whilst you can do a lot of stuff in the Perspective view, it really does help to have another 1 or 2 views to get total precision. Configuring your layout gives you greater flexibility when designing your map and you don’t have to keep zooming around perspective view awkwardly.

Enabling CTRL+S for Saving

For some reason Crytek didn’t include the popular CTRL + S hotkey which is internationally recognized as the save hotkey! Luckily, you can actually put this in yourself which is very helpful indeed for those who save as a reflex, not particularly consciously.
